The Patrol units (uniformed deputies) are responsible for the day-to-day patrolling of the county, answering complaints, serving civil process, criminal warrants, and responding to crime scenes and crimes in progress. Patrol officers often provide back-up for the five city police departments in Giles County.

In addition, the Sheriff's Department provides a deputy as school resource officer for Richland High School, D.A.R.E instructor, and a variety of other miscellaneous positions.
